This incredible scene was taken over the southern coast of Iceland from a small Cessna 180 in some particularly windy conditions. Driving through here, you'd never guess what the landscape looks like from above. Incredible braided rivers, merging and diverting, molding and shaping the land as they flow towards the ocean.

The beautiful turquoise colors here are glacial runoff. As the massive mountains of ice expand and contract over time, they grind the rock underneath into a ultrafine powder known as glacial flour. This flour mixed with the melted glacier is turquoise (don't ask me why). Uniquely, in Iceland these blue hued streams also mix with the yellow rivers, created via sulfur from volcanic activity. This scene is just as challenging to mentally process in person as the images are after the fact.

Just another example of the stunning, sometimes confusing beauty of the world we live in.
